Controversial internet security mogul turned cryptocurrency commentator John McAfee has claimed he will release his own form of currency, the ‘McAfee Redemption Unit,’ in June.

A Chance To Meet McAfee?

In a tweet from May 29th, the outspoken entrepreneur revealed what appeared to be prototypes for a series of banknotes. In the tweet, McAfee  claims:

No hoax. The ‘McAfee Redemption Unit’ is real and coming in 26 days (June 23). The graphic is low res – don’t want to give much away yet. Printed on currency paper, holographs on both sides, serialized, linked to the blockchain, redeemable, convertible, collectible.

The series consists of seven denominations, each bearing a photograph of either McAfee himself or a well-known cryptocurrency industry figure: Bitcoin Foundation executive director Brock Pierce, Bitmain CEO Jihan Wu, or Bitcoin.com CEO Roger Ver.

The reverse features an identical message with instructions for the bearer to bring the note to an address in Mexico. The banknote reads:

Present your certificate. The redemption center will verify its authenticity and provide you with a date, time and location in the US where Mr. McAfee will meet with you for the allotted time.

Unpredictable

Since outing himself as a supporter of controversial altcoin Bitcoin Cash and plugging other altcoin assets on a weekly basis, McAfee has created an online cult of personality which has proven increasingly unpredictable.

In February, cryptocurrency exchange Binance publicly reprimanded him over statements alleging it had fallen victim to hackers.

“Blockchain thankfully provides a public ledger that can disprove any FUD,” the company wrote on Twitter when McAfee refused to believe the hack rumors were fake.

Followers appeared to be impressed by the Redemption Unit, however, continuing to shower its creator with praise.
