Meta CEO and Facebook Co-Founder Mark Zuckerberg announced the expansion of their non-fungible token (NFT) features for Instagram. Deployed on May 10, 2022, this enables users to showcase their digital collectibles on the social media.
The feature will be available in over 100 countries for users in Asia, Africa, the Middle East, and the American continent. This will allow content creators to “leverage new tools to earn income”, and connect with their followers in an innovative way, according to an official update.
The Zuckerberg-led company also announced that they will support connections with Coinbase Wallet and Dapper Wallet and integration with the Flow blockchain. The latter celebrated the announcement via their official Twitter handle.
The team behind Flow blockchain said:
Our partnership with Instagram begins rolling out, which means select users can now connect their Dapper wallet and showcase their favorite NFTs directly on their account! Access will be rolling out all month, so get ready for Flow On Instagram. We’re excited to give everyone a new way to share part of who they are across Instagram This partnership reflects just how much Flow has resonated with developers, creators, and users by providing the right foundation to support consumer-scale NFT adoption
The NFT feature was already compatible with MetaMask, Trust Wallet, and other crypto wallet service providers. Thus, users can connect with Ethereum, the most used blockchain in terms of NFTs, and its second layer scalability solution Polygon and now Flow blockchain for free.
The company said the following on the process that will allow users to share NFT-based items with their followers:
In order to post a digital collectible, all you need to do is connect your digital wallet to Instagram. As of today, we support connections with third-party wallets including Rainbow, MetaMask, Trust Wallet, Coinbase Wallet and Dapper Wallet coming soon.
NFT Collectibles Will Change Social Media Experience? The NFT feature on Instagram will allow content creators to tag other users and automatically give them credit for collaborations. Digital assets on the platform will have distinct characteristics, such as a shimmer effect with the option to showcase additional information, as seen in the image below.

The Zuckerberg-led company added the following about their efforts to provide users with access to the crypto space:
It’s critical that our early efforts in this space empower diverse voices and that underrepresented groups have access to emerging digital assets like NFTs. By building support for NFTs, we aim to improve accessibility, lower barriers to entry, and help make the NFT space more inclusive to all communities.
