The first-ever large-scale airdrop in the Lightning Network ecosystem targets 100,000 Bitcoin addresses, aiming to accelerate global crypto payment adoption

January 3, 2025 - UTXO Stack, the decentralized liquidity staking layer for the Bitcoin Lightning Network, today announced the launch of its Lightning Genesis Airdrop, marking the first large-scale airdrop in the Lightning Network ecosystem. Set to commence on January 3, 2025—the 16th anniversary of the Bitcoin Genesis Block—this groundbreaking initiative will distribute approximately 5% of UTXO Stack's total token supply to 100,000 Bitcoin addresses.

Revolutionary infrastructure for Lightning Network's mass adoption

UTXO Stack addresses critical challenges in the Lightning Network through innovative infrastructure solutions. The project leverages a hybrid Lightning Network architecture, combining the Bitcoin Lightning Network (LN) with the Fiber Network (FN) on Nervos CKB. This groundbreaking integration enables seamless stablecoin support and enhanced liquidity management, addressing key limitations historically hindering Lightning Network adoption.

At the core of UTXO Stack's innovation is the Decentralized Liquidity Staking Pool (DLSP), which revolutionizes how liquidity is provided and managed within the Lightning Network. The DLSP allows users to stake Bitcoin, CKB, stablecoins, and other RGB++ assets while receiving liquidity tokens that maintain asset flexibility for other DeFi activities.

UTXO Stack aims to establish a truly decentralized peer-to-peer economy, aligning with Web5 principles that combine Web2's user-friendly applications with Web3's decentralization benefits. The project introduces several innovative features:

  • Zero-cost channel opening to reduce entry barriers
  • Automated liquidity management for improved efficiency
  • Cross-network atomic swaps for seamless asset exchange
  • Integration with JoyID wallet, which already serves over 800,000 users

UTXO Stack recently completed its Series A funding round at a $50 million valuation, co-led by UTXO Management, CMS, and PAKA. This follows their successful seed round, which was co-led by ABCDE and SNZ Capital, with participation from CKB Eco Fund, OKX Ventures, Waterdrip Capital, Matrixport, y2z Ventures, DRK Lab, and UTXO Management. This investment will accelerate the development of UTXO Stack's infrastructure and support its mission to enhance Lightning Network liquidity and integrate stablecoins into the Bitcoin ecosystem.

Lightning Genesis airdrop and TGE

As the first large-scale airdrop in the Lightning Network ecosystem, the Lightning Genesis Airdrop consists of three events:

  1. Lightning airdrop: A retrospective airdrop for mainstream Bitcoin asset holders and existing high-quality Lightning Network users. Eligible participants will receive their tokens through the Lightning Network.
  2. User incentive: Users can earn points through interactions on the Lightning Network, with token distributions proportional to their accumulated points.
  3. Liquidity boost: Incentives for hybrid Lightning Network liquidity providers. LPs can stake CKB and RGB++ assets in the Decentralized Liquidity Staking Pool (DLSP), providing liquidity to earn token rewards.

Following the airdrop, UTXO Stack plans to complete its Token Generation Event (TGE) in Q1 2025, becoming the first token issuance project in the Lightning Network ecosystem. This milestone event will further strengthen UTXO Stack's position as a cornerstone project in the Bitcoin ecosystem.

"The Lightning Genesis Airdrop represents a pivotal moment for both UTXO Stack and the broader Lightning Network ecosystem," stated Cipher, the founder of UTXO Stack. "By incentivizing network participation and providing crucial liquidity infrastructure, we're laying the foundation for mass adoption of Bitcoin payments.”
