Web3, the latest iteration of the internet that leverages the power of decentralization, is very much about building trustless ecosystems that naturally present credible services to its communities. Trust is a fundamental pillar of Web3. Communities should feel safe when it comes to their data and transactions, especially as the responsibility is transferred from centralized entities to decentralized networks ruled by code alone.
However, it’s still early to trust code. Last year, Web3 projects suffered 167 major hacking attacks, losing a total of about $3.6 billion, up 47.4% compared to 2021, according to blockchain security firm Beosin. Cross-chain bridges and decentralized finance (DeFi) protocols have been the most affected projects falling under the Web3 umbrella. Separately, cybersecurity firm Naoris Protocol stated in a report that the number of Web3 and DeFi hacks increased at the beginning of 2023.
Blockchain and Web3 give users full control over their data and digital assets, promoting a more inclusive and equitable economy, but the risks of hacking attacks, data breaches and price manipulations should be addressed immediately.
To bring trust back to the community-driven internet, industry leaders are meeting in mid-June at a unique event in Paris, France.
Known as Proof of Talk, the event is scheduled for June 14 and 15 in Louvre Palace. It will be Europe’s biggest Web3 event, redefining the standard for blockchain and Web3 conferences.

More than 100 industry leaders have already confirmed their presence to speak at the two-day event and share their insights, debate and contribute to building trust in Web3. With experts such as Charles Hoskinson, Pascal Gauthier, Stani Kulechov, Staci Warden, and numerous others, this summit boasts an all-star lineup. In addition, the guest list includes carefully selected startups, government representatives from Germany, the UK and France, and regulatory experts from various global jurisdictions. Representatives from international institutions such as the World Economic Forum, the OECD, and the European Commission will also be attending the event. What’s more, the summit will host an exhibition showcasing works from 12 digital artists.
The first day of the summit will be dedicated to reflecting on the past and exploring the theme "Bringing back trust in Web3". Through a series of forums and panels, participants will engage in open discussions to shape the future of the Web3 industry with a renewed focus on integrity and trust.
Conversely, the second day of the summit will look to the future, bringing together pre-selected Web3 startups with renowned investors such as Softbank, The Spartan Group, Fabric Ventures, Shima Capital and Animoca Brands. This dynamic environment aims to spark creativity and foster collaboration, providing valuable opportunities for founders and investors to connect and collaborate.
The Proof of Talk summit aims to set a precedent and create a platform for debates and discussions that do not resemble the monotony of the majority of unproductive conferences available today.
How to bring trust back to Web3
The core topic of the summit will be “How to bring trust back in Web3.” Industry leaders should emphasize the trust aspect, especially as recent hacking attacks and manipulations have damaged the reputation and adoption pace of Web3 applications. Trust is a foundational element in this decentralized ecosystem, and it is imperative to address its challenges openly. Zohair Dehnadi, CEO of X Ventures, the company organizing the Proof of Talk event, said:
“We acknowledge that the Web3 industry needs a reset after experiencing challenges with scams and rug pulls, unprofessionalism, and short-sighted greed. We are determined to initiate critical conversations around re-establishing trust because we firmly believe the decentralization movement offers a chance to change the world for the better.”
Proof of Talk was conceptualized as a summit with the goal of transforming the conference landscape by focusing on meaningful discussions and promoting an atmosphere of authenticity. The idea of this leadership summit is not simply to gather the top minds of blockchain, Web3 and DeFi, but to ignite worthwhile debates and reflections that would lead to a more vibrant, transparent and sustainable future for the Web3 industry.
Some of the speakers that will speak at the event include:
- Charles Hoskinson, co-founder of Cardano
- Pascal Gauthier, CEO of Ledger
- Stani Kulechov, founder and CEO of Aave
- Marieke Flament, CEO of Near
- Staci Warden, CEO of Algorand
- Beniamin Mincu, founder of MultiverseX
- Robby Young, CEO of Animoca Brands
- Brynly Llyr, head of blockchain and digital assets at the World Economic Forum
- Leemon Baird, founder of Hedera
Proof of Talk hopes that the discussions and transformative insights gathered during the event will contribute to a safer and more inclusive Web3 ecosystem. Blockchain and Web3 enthusiasts planning to be part of the summit and the Proof of Talk initiative can join the event through the official website.
