The play-to-earn model has quickly taken the forward-thinking concept of rewarding gamers and made it into a real opportunity. Now, platforms across the globe can reward gamers with online tokens that can be traded for fiat. However, these games can do more than provide income.
Alongside the growing communities built around these games, many have recognized that their power extends much further and, when channeled in the right way, can help support social initiatives. This could come in the form of promoting a charity wallet to facilitate anonymous donations or to share a portion of rewards earned in gameplay with a nonprofit organization. Still, others seek new models of giving back, including the release of in-game NFTs or special-edition releases for users.
Polker.game, a blockchain-based, play-to-earn poker game, has come a long way in building its community for users to buy, sell, trade and earn NFTs through playing poker. While bridging these two worlds, the community has seen a successful beta release with NFT integration and an upcoming launch on the centralized MEXC exchange, with more CEX announcements coming soon. These accomplishments are said to lead to Polker’s Binance Smart Chain staking functionality that went live on Dec. 25, 2021, followed by its metaverse and associated virtual reality.
Recognizing the power of its growing community, the Polker team has since partnered with the OI Pejeta Conservatory, the largest black rhino sanctuary in East Africa. As its own projects are ramping up, the Polker team has realized that its position in the market can help others — a mission it invites all gamers to.
Giving the gift that keeps on giving
The Polker team selected the OI Pejeta Conservancy as its first charity to work alongside with in part due to it being home to the last two remaining northern white rhinos in the entire world, among other endangered animals. Typically, donations are made by visitors.
However, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the usual funds raised through eco-friendly tourism have been greatly limited. If this wasn’t devastating enough, the area the conservancy is located in has also been facing a drought, which has dramatically impacted the local animals and people.
Understanding the importance of this, Polker is taking its achievements as an opportunity to give back, encouraging donations through its online community.
The team is making this process simple by creating a charity wallet that enables any contribution on Ethereum, Binance Smart Chain and Polygon to be sent. Donations are then exchanged to the equivalent dollar value before being transferred to Ol Pejeta Conservancy on Jan. 1, 2022.
Although charitable donations made in cryptocurrency gives users the opportunity to remain anonymous, Polker provides users with the option to submit their personal details so it can give back to those giving back. By using the form on the website, users can win some of the final Polker GEN-0 NFTs. In combination with this initiative, the top donor who completes the form (with the option to remain anonymous) will receive a custom charity special NFT for the Ol Pejeta Conservancy.
A solution for worldwide disparity
In light of the upcoming holidays, a member from the team shared:
“Polker wants to celebrate this year’s success by offering support to the less fortunate in the world, and we encourage everyone to join our efforts! Play-to-earn is already helping worldwide disparity — let’s see what we can do this Christmas!”
Polker’s work with the conservancy is said to be the first of a series of events. Since charity is such an essential component to the business and its staff, Polker is working hard to make its first charity event a success, setting a precedent to continue giving back to the less fortunate long into the future.
