The University College London Centre for Blockchain Technologies (UCL CBT) will be hosting the upcoming eighth edition of the P2P Financial Systems International Workshop 2022 (P2PFISY), which will be held at the UCL School of Management on One Canada Square, Canary Wharf in London on Dec. 1 and 2.

The P2PFISY workshop aims to bring together top academics, central bankers, regulators, lawmakers and practitioners to discuss and challenge issues in P2P finance. The workshop dates back to the year 2015, when it was kicked off at the Deutsche Bundesbank by Paolo Tasca, co-founder and executive director of UCL CBT. The event has been held at other prestigious institutions such as the Federal Reserve Bank of Cleveland and the European Central Bank. It remains a highly important calendar event of the year, and UCL has the honor of hosting it again.

As a highly important calendar event, the P2PFISY workshop puts the spotlight on different topics each year. This year, the focus is on sustainability, decentralized finance and stablecoins.

Presentations at the conference have been selected from papers submitted by top academics and public institutions, such as central banks, regulators and innovators from the private sector. The conference review committee has carefully reviewed these for their policy-oriented, theoretical and empirical arguments on P2P Finance.

There will be panels focusing on each of the central themes this year. With increasing debates on digital assets and ESG, this panel will discuss how decentralized technologies and disintermediated P2P organizations can address ESG and help improve in issues of environment, social equality and fair governance. Another panel will be on stablecoins and financial stability, raising the question of how the wide range of cryptocurrencies are currently used and their relationship with traditional finance. This panel will also address the challenges that industry and regulatory organizations face in this fast-changing environment.

During the two days, researchers, industry experts and entrepreneurs will be engaged in topical presentations and debates.

Among the confirmed speakers are:

  • Leemon Baird — inventor of Hedera Hashgraph
  • Monique Morrow — former chief technology officer at Cisco
  • Teana Baker-Taylor — head of policy and regulatory strategy at Circle
  • Hugo Philion — CEO of Flare and a UCL alumnus
  • Marcus Treacher — board director at ClearBank
  • Kristina Lucrezia Cornèr — editor-in-chief at Cointelegraph
