Uplink CEO Carlos Lei Santos predicts the next trillion-dollar company will emerge from the DePIN industry, driven by the growing demand for decentralized wireless connectivity solutions.

The next $1 trillion company to emerge will likely come from the decentralized physical infrastructure network (DePIN) industry.

The new trillion-dollar giant could arise due to the pressing need for more wireless hardware connectivity, according to Carlos Lei Santos, the co-founder and CEO of Uplink. Lei told Cointelegraph in an exclusive:

“I truly believe that the next trillion-dollar company will be independent and most likely would be in wireless connectivity. It’s the part where the market is growing.”

According to Uplink’s CEO, this next trillion-dollar giant will be based on decentralized connectivity infrastructure, which is the natural evolution of the segment. Lei explains below.

The next trillion-dollar giant will be the “AWS” of connectivity

As opposed to centralized companies, the next $1 trillion DePIN firm will likely emerge as a decentralized “orchestrator,” connecting different infrastructures.

This orchestrator will most likely resemble today’s Amazon Web Services (AWS), the world’s most widely-used cloud computing platform. According to Lei:

“They'll allow to orchestrate between different infrastructures regardless of who's running this so it's the same way Amazon did with AWS. This next one trillion dollar company is gonna be the AWS of connectivity.”

According to a 2022 report by Intricately, over 1.45 million businesses have been using Amazon’s AWS as the largest global cloud provider.

DePIN industry to reach $3.5 trillion by 2028: Messari

DePIN is one of the fastest-growing industries, with an estimated total addressable market of over $2.2 trillion.

The DePIN industry is expected to reach over $3.5 trillion by 2028, which would mean an over $1.3 trillion increase, according to a Messari report from January 2023.

Uplink’s CEO said that Messari’s growth prediction will “100%” come to fruition, driven by a growing need for new decentralized connectivity solutions, that can scale past the inefficiencies of current interconnectivity solutions.

Uplink’s Lei explained:

“So every single day there's more devices with connectivity needs. There's more demand on this and the reality is the way that connectivity infrastructure has been deployed so far is no longer sustainable.”
