The open-source, local trader app, Mycelium, that Android users have been able to utilize for months now has finally come over to the bright white side of digital tech by releasing a bitcoin wallet for iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch.
There was no grandiose announcement to usher in the App. Dmitry Murashchik, also known across social platforms as Rassah, simply made a Reddit post on the bitcoin subreddit with the title hinting at only a minor announcement.
On the topic of whether or not the famed Local Trader portion of the Mycelium platform would make its way to the Apple version, Murashchik was unsure of the future.
“Maybe? This is done by a team that is not part of our core devs. We literally just found out about it from our boss, and are scrambling to learn everything we can about it ourselves.”
Due to their office in Vienna, Austria along with developers all around Europe, it seems the internal communications could use a bit of reorganizing. According to Murashchik, everyone communicates over Skype and email, leaving some pieces of communication to fall through the cracks. Of course, that’s not unlikely of a company that allows employees to work from the comfort of their homes rather than displace them unnecessarily.
Murashchik also commented that there are no plans to expand applications to other underserved platforms, such as the Windows Phone. With the Windows Phone and Microsoft accepting bitcoin now though, the market for bitcoin friendly apps may find a new home and market if they do decide to expand.
The Status of the next Mycelium Project: Entropy
Back in August, Mycelium successfully funded their USB Bitcoin wallet device that allowed users to print off paper wallets. After raising $31,271 in USD on Indiegogo, the wallets went into the next stage of development.
After six months though, consumers that funded the project are curious as to the status of their devices. According to Mycelium, they’re on their way.
“It’s done, we have working samples, are desperately waiting for the first mass production run to arrive, difficult to get info from the factory. Everything is in place.”
Mycelium said they just have to wait to “flash them, seal them and ship them.” The company hopes it all might work out before the holiday season, but that deadline is getting increasingly tight.
