A few months ago, Bitcoinist held a giveaway where three lucky winners received a Ledger hardware Bitcoin wallet for free. We gave away three different Ledger products: the Ledger Nano, Ledger HW.1 and Ledger Unplugged. Now, we’re giving away Ledger devices again, and this time we have some new products up for grabs.

Ledger walletIn this giveaway, we are offering another Ledger Nano, in addition to two different products. We have one Ledger Starter to give away; this device is a “secure provisioning system”. The Starter has “an isolated offline operating system that plugs into the USB port of your PC or Mac (desktop only) and allows you to initialize your Ledger device (Nano and HW.1) even on a compromised computer.” In order to use this device, though, you must have a Ledger nano or HW.1. Furthermore, MacBooks are not supported on the Ledger Starter platform. We are also giving away a Ledger OTG, which is an Android phone adapter for the Ledger Wallet. If you are somewhere without a PC or laptop and need access to your funds, you can simply plug this device into your Android phone and make your transaction. The OTG is compatible with both USB 2.0 and 3.0, and can also be used to transfer data between other devices. Again, in order to use this device, you will need a Ledger Nano or HW.1.

To enter our Ledger giveaway, all you have to do is subscribe to our mailing list. By doing so, you will receive emails about the content published on Bitcoinist, and you will be able to unsubscribe at any time. We will randomly select three winners from the people who subscribe to our email list; we will announce the winners on January 15, 2016.

Ledger Wallet offers a solution to a problem faced by many bitcoiners: theft. Bitcoin users often find themselves victim to hackers and scammers who are able to gain access to the users’ computers and private keys, allowing the criminals to transfer the bitcoins into their own wallets. Given the nature of the blockchain, it is impossible to get your coins back once they have been stolen. Ledger’s products allow people to store their coins away from their computer in a cold storage device — a wallet not connected to the Internet. If you use a hardware wallet, the only way a thief can steal your bitcoins is to break in to your house and steal your wallet. Even then, they can’t get to your coins without your private key. Thus, hardware wallets like the Ledger Wallet add a strong layer of security to your bitcoin stash. Ledger goes a step further than some other hardware wallet providers by providing a variety of devices that people can choose from, including an NFC-enabled, “contactless” bitcoin wallet.

So, if you are interested in keeping your bitcoins extra safe, it is definitely worth entering our giveaway for a chance to win a free Ledger Wallet, or a device that you can use with your Ledger Wallet to make transferring your bitcoins easier. Again, all you have to do is sign up for our email list through the form provided below, and wait for us to announce the winners on January 15.
