The nonfungible token (NFT) space is on the cusp of renewed momentum despite the heavy blow that the overall crypto market is experiencing. Leading NFT marketplaces like OpenSea, LooksRare, and Magic Eden are still seeing huge volumes of trades happening, and it appears trades won’t be dying down anytime soon.
There is also no end to the birth of new NFT collectives with awesome — and quirky — concepts and designs. In retrospect, what used to be a small and tight competition for media attention has now turned into a full-blown and robust ecosystem. In fact, rap legends Eminem and Snoop Dogg recently showcased two Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC) NFTs in a music video.
Touching the subject, however, is one curious theme that many have observed with BAYC — they look bored. Stylish, unique, but bored.
NFTs not exciting enough?
Not that BAYC designs are dull and unoriginal — they are quite vivid and novel. However, one needs to face the fact that a lot of NFTs are now repeating the same cycle over and over. Some are even stuck at being JPEGs with no other use cases in sight.
Of course, BAYC offers exclusive benefits to holders by providing them special access to events on top of other benefits. Earlier this year, ApeCoin was also airdropped to BAYC holders. Furthermore, there is Otherside, an upcoming NFT game unique to the BAYC ecosystem.
However, some may sympathize with the notion that NFT communities are distant from each other. It feels like each NFT collective has its own unique world, and nobody has thought of creating a spaceship to port one community to another.
Should each NFT enthusiast buy one NFT from each community, only to obtain all of their membership benefits? Is there no other option? Anything?
Metaverse and a good storyline
The metaverse can be one of those solutions that try to reconcile the differences between these NFT communities. However, given the current state of the NFT space, metaverses still have leagues to cover in this regard.
So what is another solution? What other solution is there? A good storyline.
What if, for example, there was something that could remove the boredom from the Bored Apes? Lots of money? One grand adventure? A girlfriend?
What if there exists another club purposefully designed to find a suitable mate for these manly primates? A Lady Ape Club, perhaps?
One could even envision a real physical community of NFT holders who can use Bored Apes and Lady Apes as a relationship status, like one guy who buys a BAYC NFT and looks for the woman who owns the perfect Lady Ape NFT to match. Another example is a dating platform that uses BAYC and Lady Apes as avatars instead of posting inappropriate photos. The possibilities are endless.
Believe it or not, one platform is already making a mission of “unboring” the Bored Apes with their Lady Ape counterparts. Exactly when should people expect this exciting experiment?
