NFTs provide a simple, transparent and accessible way to help empower women in the Web3 era

Across the globe, women creators and founders in Web3 are building communities and innovating to help other women create wealth and have ownership and integrity over their work. At the same time, humanitarian efforts within the crypto space are evolving and gaining traction thanks to decentralized finance. Through the rise of nonfungible tokens (NFTs), generating funds for public good has become easier.

Prominent examples include NFT artists such as Refik Anadol and Murat Pak, who mobilized the NFT community when a massive earthquake struck the Turkish–Syrian border. To provide immediate aid for victims of the disaster, revenue generated from NFT collections was donated to local humanitarian efforts alongside aid-specific crypto wallets. Crypto exchanges also mentioned developing an NFT aid initiative for continuous support for the people affected by the earthquake.

Aside from the immediate response, blockchain technology presents an opportunity to help all demographics of society via transparent, reliable and simple methods. Nonprofit crypto fundraising platforms saw over 30% of their donation volume coming from NFT-giving initiatives last year.

Turning women’s voices into action through art and innovation

Melissa Jun Rowley, founder and CEO of social impact marketing collective and production company Warrior Love Productions, is spotlighting the achievements and solidarity of women working in Web3 around the world with a new NFT collection on the SOLIS Market. Named HerVoice, the collection consists of 3,905 NFTs, representing the 3.905 billion women in the world. Each NFT combines the creativity of multiple artists, weaving together elements of poetry, dance and animated shorts. Five unique one-of-one art pieces will go on sale on March 15.

Inspired by the vision of Warrior Love Productions’ creative director Visionnaire and based on a poem written by Rowley, the animations were created by CreativeAya using artificial intelligence to process the still images of choreography performed by Ty “Crux” Jones-Bain and Nneka “Delacyn” Irobunda.

In addition to these collaborators, 26 women from around the world who are active leaders in the worlds of Web3, art and social innovation contributed to the collectibles as narrators of the poem. A total of 21 countries are represented, and a total of 10 different languages are spoken in the art pieces.

Rowley shared:

“International Women’s Day and Women’s History Month is a special occasion every year. This year, it’s hitting me deeper than ever. Mainstream news coverage about women-led events, such as the revolution in Iran and protests in Afghanistan over the ban on education for women and girls are still unfolding, and it’s going to be a long time before anything gets resolved. In Israel, women are playing a pivotal role in the protests against the government’s plans to weaken the country’s judiciary system. I talked to a few women in Turkey and Syria the other day. Everyone in that region is dealing with the aftermath of the recent earthquake. And let’s not forget that the war in Ukraine is still happening. People around the world need hope, community and solidarity. That’s what I hope HerVoice can help offer in some small way. Some of our collaborators are from or living in the countries I just mentioned, and they’re promoting peace and equality through their art and businesses. These women along with the other HerVoice contributors and so many others represent the best of Web3, and they’re just getting started.”

On-chain social impact

As an initiative blooming in the Web3 space, HerVoice is creating digital assets as a vehicle for public good by automating and distributing funds for women activists and community leaders across the globe.

The revenue generated from NFT sales will go toward Web3 education events that Warrior Love Productions will organize and programs supporting women and girls run by the international nonprofit CARE, which operates in more than 100 countries. One of the first organizations to focus on women and girls as agents of change, CARE measures its programs with the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

Regarding her vision for the future of HerVoice, Rowley said:

“Our hope for HerVoice is not only to connect Web3 natives to CARE’s programs, it’s also to flip the script on the narrative about women in the Web3 industry. While there are definitely more men working in blockchain than women, there are a number of women across the globe building and innovating, and onboarding more women and people in marginalized communities into the space. They’re promoting the use of blockchain for which it was originally intended — collaboration, openness, generosity and justice.”

To maximize the impact of the HerVoice NFT collection, Rowley has partnered with SOLIS, a Web3 production ecosystem. The first five HerVoice NFTs are slated to launch on March 15, 2023 on SOLIS Market as part of Women’s History Month. Built on the Polygon network, the new digital collectible marketplace enables the creation, distribution and exchange of assets derived from various forms of art and entertainment content.

The first five HerVoice one-of-one art pieces sold by HerVoice NFT will provide VIP access to CARE events and specialized content and performances, including meet and greets with celebrities and backstage passes to CARE’s Annual Impact Awards. Some HerVoice NFT holders will get a chance to visit CARE’s on-the-ground programs working with women and girls addressing hunger, climate action, education, health and financial inclusion.

The Web3 space continues to create inspiring stories for all parts of society. With simple, user-friendly and reliable digital platforms like SOLIS Market, making an impact for meaningful causes is becoming more transparent and accessible via digital collectibles.
