Oct. 12, 2022 — The blockchain-based gaming platform Epic League has closed successful strategic and private rounds. Also, the premiere title of Epic League, Dark Throne, debuted globally on Sept. 28.

Griffin Gaming Partners, one of the largest venture funds in the global gaming industry; Game7 DAO, a $500-million ecosystem fund for gaming seeded by BitDAO and Forte; Mirana Ventures; Polygon Ventures of the Polygon Foundation; and Netmarble and Neowiz, Korea’s leading game publishers; are among the investors in these rounds. Planetarium, an open-source blockchain game platform, and Ozys, a blockchain technology development company, also participated. Double Jump Tokyo has also finalized its investment.

Pierre Planche, a partner at Griffin Gaming Partners, said, “Through its game ecosystem, Epic League has the ability to attract new users to blockchain-enabled games. The team’s track record of releasing several global hit games bodes well for their future; we are thrilled to be working closely together alongside Game7 DAO, leading gaming companies and other strategic partners.”

Ken Kim, CEO of Netmarble Monster, added, “We are thrilled to collaborate with Epic League, whose members have been longtime trusted friends of ours. Together, we hope to create a sustainable ecosystem that will have positive effects beyond the gaming entertainment industry as a result of an extensive cooperation that will establish an advanced GameFi environment for the blockchain space.”

Jay Kim, executive director of Epic League, stated, “Epic League’s success is strongly reliant on its backers, investors and supporters. Their contribution has created exceptional GameFi experiences in a variety of fields, such as gaming, decentralized finance (DeFi), nonfungible token (NFT) and community, which provides the ideal foundation for Epic League to build blockchain-based gaming infrastructure. Our team has more than 200 years of combined experience in game development and operation, and I am confident that our team will deliver high-quality games and infrastructure to enable a wide range of users to enjoy fun games and GameFi.”

Dark Throne is a hack-and-slash action role-playing game, and Jeehyung Lee, who is currently a cover artist for both Marvel and DC Comics, participated as art director. Paladin, Assassin and Demon Hunter are ready to explore dungeons and battle a variety of monsters. The team invested a great deal of time and work developing the UX so that players may enjoy dynamic gameplay with simple controls. It also supports multiple platforms, including Steam, Web, Android and iOS, so a player may play on PC and mobile devices using a single account.

The closed beta test was concluded with great success in June 2022, demonstrating that it is an entertaining game with a 67.8% retention rate on the seventh day after a week of operation. The launch of Dark Throne, the first game to be a part of the Epic League ecosystem, was on Sept. 28, 2022, and the game is already live and attracting a great deal of interest.

Kim said, “With the participation of top international investors, we now have a presence in the global market, and we will establish ourselves as a world-class gaming platform in the fiercely competitive blockchain-based game space.”
