In the past two weeks, there has been a clear surge in the number of Bitcoin ATMs going live around the world, according to our content partner, Coin ATM Radar. This recent push has seen the number of active BTMs hit the 350 mark as of February 8, 2015.
One area of concentration has been Europe, with Estonia getting its first BTM, machines continuing to go up in Finland and the UK, and a couple of Robocoin kiosks finding homes in northern Italy.
Below are five new Bitcoin ATMs in Europe, plus a bonus listing for the BitPay Amsterdam office.
Estonia
A Lamassu machine at a forex booth just outside of Tallinn’s Old Town marks the first Bitcoin ATM in Estonia. Operators DeCrypto OÜ have installed the one-way machine at the Spotex bureau de change on Tartu maantee 51/51a. It’s open from 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 P.M. local time, and users need to present an ID to the teller before purchasing bitcoins.
Finland
In Tampere, a one-way Lamassu machine, operated by Bittimattii, has found a new home at the Tullintori Shopping Center, right in the middle of the city. Coin ATM Radar says the machine charges a 5% fee on top of Bitstamp’s rates, and users can buy as much as 15,000 EUR worth of bitcoins per day from it.
Italy
In Milan, co-working space Talent Garden has installed a two-way Robocoin kiosk that was previously set up at the Galleria Deodato Arte Milano. It charges 8% fees for transactions and caps transactions at 999 EUR.
Down in Florence, e-cigarette and vape retail chain Smokie’s has also installed a two-way Robocoin kiosk at its Borgo degli Albizi shop. That machine charges 6% fees, and all transactions are limited to 999 EUR per day.
Netherlands
In Amsterdam, BitPay’s office has installed a second BTM, this one from CoinOutlet. It’s a two-way machine, but it is not intended for public use. “BitPay and CoinOutlet will be educating merchants about Bitcoin,” CoinOutlet's Director of European Operations Abhimanyu Dayal said in a statement. “It is a teaching tool for businesses."
UK
Used media and electronics chain CeX has been active in adopting and promoting Bitcoin in the UK, with its 90 stores all accepting Bitcoin payments. Now, a one-way Lamassu machine at the Tottenham Court Road storefront becomes London’s eighth BTM.
“Just like our other Bitcoin ATMs in CeX Glasgow Sauchiehall Street and CeX Manchester Arndale, this one charges a modest commission and it's very first user had their £10 turned into £10.11 in less than 30 seconds,” the company said in a blog post on January 30.
