ETHPorto, a 48-hour hackathon and conference running in parallel, hosted at Hard Club, brings Web3 to Portugal’s second-largest city for the first time. ETHPorto is a space for the local and global Web3 community to convene, learn and produce technical solutions at one of the world’s most crypto-friendly destinations.

The three-day hackathon and conference has been independently organized to bridge Web3 solutions with Porto’s most prominent industries, such as fishing, wine production and agriculture. ETHPorto is also focused on exploring the applications of Web3 technology in the administration of public goods through decentralized governance (DeGov) and the application of decentralized science (DeSci) while covering the blue and green economy. Featured speakers will deliver talks on associated issues such as energy consumption, interoperability and distributed communities.

Mario Alves, co-founder of Taikai and co-organizer of ETHPorto, commented: “As a tripeiro born and raised, it gives me great satisfaction to bring an event of this magnitude to my home city of Porto. Our vision for ETHPorto is to enrich the Ethereum ecosystem with the hackathon, adding to the thousands of decentralized applications already powered by the network. ETHPorto brings international and local perspectives together to produce DApps addressing real-world problems, while also making the professional opinions of Web3 thought-leaders accessible to hackers and attendees.”

The event commences on Thursday, March 16, with the support of both local and international players such as Ethereum Foundation, Gnosis Chain, Ledger, Chainlink and Bison Digital. Project submissions and assessment will take place on the closing day, Saturday, March 18. Hosted at Porto’s Hard Club, hackers and guests alike can enjoy an array of experts delivering keynote sessions throughout the three-day event, including quadratic voting, distributed communities, smart agriculture and fishing, decentralized science and planetary health.

Sara Amaral, co-organizer of ETHPorto, added, “Events like this are the cultural heartbeat of Web3. I’m glad our team is bringing that energy to Porto with the hackathon and conference. ETHPorto is a melting pot of ideas, people and technology that celebrates our global Web3 community, putting the spotlight on use cases that people can actually relate to.”
