EthCC (Ethereum Community Conference), the largest annual European Ethereum conference created for the community, by the community, will return for EthCC[7] from 8-11 July 2024 in Brussels, Belgium, and bring together the top minds in Ethereum to share their vision for the future of the ecosystem.

In an exclusive interview, Jerome de Tychey, President of Ethereum France, and Bettina Boon Falleur, Head of ETHCC, highlight the unique aspects of this year's conference and the pivotal discussions that will shape Ethereum's narrative for the remainder of the year.

Q: Can you give us insight into the vision behind the Ethereum Community Conference [ETHCC] and what the team is trying to accomplish?

Jerome de Tychey: EthCC is first and foremost an event by the community and for the community. The event arose from our belief that a blockchain conference should focus on technology, education, and showcasing the changes that developers are driving. Sharing knowledge is the most efficient way to develop a positive and fertile ecosystem, so our goal is to bring together as many diverse actors from the blockchain ecosystem for 4 days of talks and workshops. Inclusivity is also a priority so we aim to cover many subjects and address different levels of comprehension of blockchain technology. Overall, we are really proud that what began as a modest gathering has evolved into one of the largest ETH Conferences.

Q: EthCC is back for its seventh edition, this time shifting locations from Paris to Brussels. Why was Brussels chosen as the new location for ETHCC[7] and what can the community expect?

Bettina Boon Falleur: We are excited to return with bigger and better plans for this year. With a new location comes a bigger venue which will allow EthCC to accommodate more people. We will be hosting more than 350 speakers and 6000 attendees from all around the world with various talks, workshops, and side events. Some exciting new features also include a day nursery to make it easier for all the hard-working parents out there to participate in these important discussions.

Brussels is also a significant location geographically, the European Union (EU) headquarters, and plays a vital role in formulating the bloc’s digital assets strategy and blockchain initiatives. This presents ETHCC[7] with a unique opportunity to be a stage for the Ethereum community to convene within the political capital to discuss the evolving global regulatory perspectives, especially ahead of MiCA becoming law within the EU very soon.

Q: What are some of the most significant developments you’ve seen take place in the Web3 ecosystem this year?

Jerome de Tychey: Since EthCC[6], we’ve witnessed significant strides in the crypto space, including milestones like the successful execution of the Dencun Upgrade (including Proto-Danksharding EIP4844) on Ethereum, the approval of Spot ETFs in the US, the blossoming of several layer 2 and layer 3 solutions, and of course the MiCA regulation in Europe. The engineering community has been hard at work the past year and we’re looking forward to seeing these developments at ETHCC[7]. The progress made will be showcased and will set the expectations for the year ahead. With the industry rapidly growing, amplifying the community’s ideas and voices is a focal point of EthCC and we look forward to engaging with everyone.

Q: As mentioned, 2024 has already seen some major developments. What are some of the key topics and trends on this year’s agenda and who are some of the headline speakers we can get excited about?

Bettina Boon Falleur: It’s an exciting time to be in crypto and key topics on the agenda this year include onboarding and account abstraction, interoperability, real-world assets (RWAs), and restaking. Concurrently, ETHCC[7] will also be a stage to discuss the evolving global regulatory perspectives.

Attendees can expect a strong line of speakers including Vitalik Buterin, Co-Founder of the Ethereum Foundation, Lily Liu, President of Solana Foundation, Illia Polosukhin, Co-Founder of Near Foundation, Jeremy Allaire, Co-Founder and CEO of Circle, Charles Jenson, Head of Decentralized Finance Transformation at S&P Global, Digital Finance Expert, Xavier Lavayssière, on regulation, and many more exciting industry leaders.
