A Dutch website that manages delivery for more than 5,000 restaurants in the Netherlands has announced it will begin accepting payments in Bitcoin.

Management for Thuisbezorgd.nl, which processes about 600 thousand orders and deliveries every month, said the move was designed to allow customers more payment choices.

It could also end up saving customers money.

While half of deliveries are paid for in cash, the other half is paid for with bank cards or PayPal, and these forms of payment come with transaction fees. Thuisbezorgd.nl charges 1 euro for non-cash payments.

Bitcoin, however, is exchanged much more easily and offers merchants lower transaction costs, which could then be passed along to customers.

While the price of the digital currency continues to fluctuate against hard currencies such as the euro, its actual value as an asset class and form of payment is only increasing with such examples of widespread adoption. Thuisbezorgd.nl is owned by Takeaway.com, a UK-based home delivery company that operates throughout Europe, including in Belgium, Germany, France, Austria, Switzerland and Denmark.
