Bitcoin Magazine applauds the work for the Internet Defense League (IDL) in taking a stand against the U.S. Government’s NSA internet surveillance. As July 4th marks Independence Day in the United States, it also marks IDL’s protest for privacy in support of actions on the ground in cities around the country. IDL is planning for this protest to be the largest since the Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA).
As the IDL desires not only to protect the rights of internet users around the world, this advocacy organization seeks to preserve and protect the US Constitution and the founding principle of freedom of speech. Today’s movement to protect internet privacy will be based on grassroots internet users such as you and I who would like to restore the protection of Constitutional principles in all aspects of society. Grassroots Internet users across the US have already mobilized and started Restore the Fourth protests on the ground around U.S. On the coattails of the StopWatching.us coalition, now having over 500,000 signers, the IDL plans that the Restore the Fourth protests will strengthen and support the 4th Amendment of the US Constitution.
The 4th Amendment reads:
“The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized.”
Bitcoin Magazine stands with the IDL in support of the rights to free speech, freedom of association and privacy. As the NSA is currently violating these rights, the IDL encourages citizens of the US and individuals to take an active stance in support of freedom. Especially in light of the NSA leak and revelation of PRISM, Bitcoin Magazine joins with the IDL to stand up against violations of the US Constitution and the principles of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.
The Bitcoin currency has thrived to date in a free market space. Increased government intervention and control of the internet and the world wide web will hinder ingenuity and economic growth which benefits individuals around the world.
