The company says that it is “deeply involved in the promotion of the emerging crypto-economy,” working to spread bitcoin through “solutions aimed at improving the in-person bitcoin payment experience.”

34 Bytes says that their new POS terminals do not require merchants to use smartphones or tablets to accept bitcoin payments. The terminals are designed to be standalone devices, and can reportedly “accept bitcoin transactions from any bitcoin wallet application.” Received bitcoin payments can be processed through Coinbase, or can be stored in a cold wallet.

The company says that more back-end integration options are on the horizon.

These terminals are secure, with Wi-Fi built in, according to 34 Bytes. The company claims that it will never have access to merchants’ private keys, which they say gives “merchant[s] complete control over their funds.

Merchants who participate in this beta testing phase can enter in a “Free Bitcoin POS Terminal Contest.” Beta testers who win this contest will receive a terminal to keep permanently at no cost. Winners will also have the first 6 weeks worth of processing fees waived by 34 Bytes.

In return, winners will be asked to share feedback regarding their experience with the system, in order to help the company improve their product.

Merchants can sign up for the Free Bitcoin POS Terminal Contest here.
